Using XPROM V5.60 with USB Dongle to Install on Win7 Procedure

XPROG-M V5.60 XPROG M Programmer with USB Dongle is the 2016 Latest Version. Its software can be installed on Windows XP and windows 7. It is very popular among European market. One of my customers shared me that he used XPROM V5.60 with USB Dongle to install on Win7 procedure. Here is the details below:

1) He installed Adobe Reader.
a. He inserted CD and double clicked "My Computer".
b. Then he opened CD and copied the compressed file "XP 5.60 English" to Desktop.
c. He decompressed "XP 5.60 English", then opened "XP5.60" and installed Adobe Reader file.

2) He registried editor.
a. He right clicked "Registry Editor", then chose "Merge" and click "Yes" and "OK" when the alert dialog boxs are showing.

b. He did copy the folder “XPROG-BOX 5.60 English file” to Local Disk "C".

3) He installed driver. Here is the steps:
a. He connected X-Prog Box to the computer and get message “Installing device driver software", if it failed to automatically install driver on win7 shown as follows, please manually installed the driver by following below steps.

b. He right clicked "My Computer" and chose option "Manage", then "Device Manager", then right clicked "Xprog-box" under "Other devices" then "Update Driver Software".

c. He got a dialog box and clicked "Browse my computer for driver software".
d. He selected browse location: Desktop-XPROG-BOX drive-WINDOW XP (Note: Select the driver software from folder "WINDOW XP" is okay.)
e. He clicked "Next" to go on and got a Windows security warning message, clicked "Install this driver software anyway".

f. He right clicked "USB Serial Port" to choose "Update Driver Software". He  got a message and clicked "Browse my computer for driver software". Then he chose browse location "WINDOW XP", and ignored windows security warning message.

g. He found "Xprog-box programmer (COM4)" and "USB Input Device", finally the driver software was installed with success.

h. He selected the Xprog-BOX 5.60 English file folder at Local Disk "C" and opened "XprogDesktop" application file. Then agreed Adobe Reader's protocol.

4) He copied read write device data.
a. He did click "Device" option at the toolbar of V5.60 and select Type-Serial EEPROM, Subtype-Atmel, and Device-AT93C66.

b. He clicked "New" at toolbar and got a noname file, next clicked "Read" and moved mouse to read codes.

c. Note: For the next time use with convenience, you are advised to send "XprogDesktop" to desktop.

XPROM V5.60 with USB Dongle installed suceessfully on Win7.

How to solve “FF FF” error when Xprog-M V5.55 Read BMW E46 M35080 EEPROM?

Xprog-M V5.55 is the newest version of XPROG-M ECU Programmer.Some customers use it to read BMW E46 M35080 EEPROM,but they feedback some problems.Here is the one of screenshot below:

All begin with “FF”error.

They take the cluster apart and solder directly to pins of M35080 but still get the same results, it reads of FF FF.

Here are some possible reasons:
(1).M35080 16 pin adapter programming board used for the M35080 with the Xprog M is not working properly
(2).“99% sure the FF reads are due to the adapter board” (by a xprog user)

Solution:
You should replace the 8 wire harness with a new one and soldering is as it should be to remove the 8 wires from the board, connect brass pins and connect the 8 wires to the corresponding slots on the 16 pin connector thus avoiding the use of the board.

You should solder the wires directly to the corresponding pins off of the connector that connects to the xprog box and thus bypass the M35080 Xprog green board:

The M35080 pin order and the Xprog-m 16 pin connector pin should be label so that the correct 7 pins can be sequenced between the M35080 eeprom and the Xprog-M special programming board for the M35080 eeprom:

They have rewired and here is the read information:

You should select E46 M35080 and not E46 Bosch M35080 — that is why the read come out as pictured with an incorrect representation of the VIN and the other data.
You should save the original file on the m35080 eeprom and then edit that bin file and save it with another name.
You should erase the m35080 and load the original file that is edited.
You should write the new file to the m35080.

You should do a new read to confirm all are well.
